Prof. Rosanne Somerson

Rosanne Somerson received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1976 and joined the RISD faculty in 1985. A former Department Head of Furniture Design, she is currently Interim Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and a Professor of Furniture Design, while maintaining her own furniture design and production studio. She is also a partner in DEZCO llc.

Her work, which is featured in numerous books and publications, has been exhibited extensively in major American and International museums, such as the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts, and is included in a host of private, corporate and museum collections such as the Smithsonian Museum and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, among others. Having lectured extensively worldwide, she has also served on numerous panels, juries and boards, and has appeared in several videos and television segments. She is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and has received many awards including the Grand Prize of the "American Crafts Awards Competition" in 1987.
