Michael Snow

American Hardwood Export Council

Michael Snow has been the Executive Director of the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) since 1999, and was previously AHEC's Program Manager with primary responsibility for Europe, Southeast Asia and Greater China.

Prior to joining AHEC, Mike spent six years in Spain teaching International Economics in English and Spanish for a joint University of Wisconsin / University of Seville program, and worked as a consultant on international education outreach programs for the National Geographic Society and the Smithsonian Associates.

Mike holds a Master's Degree in International Economics from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Developmental Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Seth Stem

Seth Stem has been a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design since 1980, where he teaches furniture design in the Department of Industrial Design. In a professional context Seth is currently designing wood, bamboo lumber, and RTA furniture that is being produced in various countries of Asia for his clients. He has designed furniture for Directions East of Bethel, Ct, Lloyd Flanders Industries of Menominee, Michigan, Whitney Brothers Co. of Keene, New Hampshire, and Mehitabel of Cebu, Philippines, among others. He holds several patents on his designs, and in 2003 was a finalist for the American Society of Furniture Designers Pinnacle Award in the Occasional Furniture category for one of his patented products. Prior to designing furniture for the industry, Seth designed and made furniture that was extensively exhibited in museums and galleries in the USA. He is the author of Designing Furniture, a book that describes and analyzes visual design elements and design methodology, published by the Taunton Press, Newtown, CT in 1989.

Seth has lectured about furniture design at numerous venues in the USA as well as in Nova Scotia, Vietnam and Korea. He was a juror for the 2005 Pinnacle Award in association with the American Society of Furniture Designers, "Design Emphasis" at the International Woodworking Fair, Atlanta, Georgia in 1992, Table, Lamp, and Chair, Portland, Oregon in 1990, and the International KD Furniture Exhibition, New York, NY, 1985. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Central America and parts of Africa. Seth has a home and design studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
